What This Website is all about!

As I remarked on the home page, this project has always been a bucket list hope living in the back part of my mind for many years.  I really wanted to be able too gather a majority of the family recipes that should not be lost but  rather chronicled.   And in many ways preserves a linkage to the past of family traditions and recipes framed in good memories.

I also prescribe to to the belief that food is a unique art form because it can play with all of your senses. Obviously, you taste the food and you can feel the texture as you chew. You can hear the sounds of the chicken stock boiling with the wonderful aroma that fills the kitchen.  And you see the food and its presentation. The physical comforts of the food has meaning and they all fit into a sense of wellbeing.   Food has always been at the center of our lives because it plays a significant part in our social and cultural lifestyles. We gather as whole community around food, share it with the people we love. Good memories are often associated to what we eat on a particular moment of joy.  So I think it is import to gather all the recipes and link it back to parts of the family.  It is very much like a book of memories if we choose to just let those memories take hold.

But writing about my family is only the first part of this project as I would love to open this project to our extended families .  I think it would be great to ask friends to add to the recipes and stories around what this cookbook means.   So we will be including recipes and family stories of many friends as it is a way to experience other family joy.

“Food is an art form, because it expresses culture, evokes emotion and memories, self expression, engages all the sensory experiences and we all can equally participate”. Ian Marx

What you will discover in this website cookbook.

My ambition is to assemble all the family recipes that have been pasted down to all the members of the family along with the current recipes my family has adopted. But more over, it is a way to capture all the stories and traditions the recipes have engender. Those recipes, traditions and memories are worth sharing with each other to preserve them from being lost. They become so much more valuable to the future generations I will never meet. I would love to have one more day with my my departed family to absorb all the memories and moments they had to allow me to live in their past and preserve what is now lost.

As we collect the recipes we will focus on comfort food, tailgates and everyday favorites. We will spend time talking about BBQ and all the dishes that compliment one of my favorite food groups. Any cookbook will need to give singular attention to the Clambake. It was an institution in the Waite family. And one of the most inspiring food group will be the Holidays. Many great recipes and traditions to share. And I will complete the website by exploring the family tree and some history and it memories. This will be a work in progress for many years. I sincerely hope that my relatives and friends add to the recipes.

“I don't know what it is about food your mother makes for you, especially when it's something that anyone can make - pancakes, meat loaf, tuna salad - but it carries a certain taste of memory.”

Mitch Albon
